Sai Parenting Topics

A word from the Authors:

This curriculum was written with the idea of integrating the various aspects of a person’s life in a harmonious way so that the children benefit from the spiritual elevation of the parent.  It was written using the book Sathya Sai Parenting by Rita Bruce as a guide.  It is by no means an attempt at a book study, rather it is written with the intent that parents will implement the ideas put forth in class and thereby improve not only their own spiritual understanding but that of their child(ren).  The focus should NOT be on completing the curriculum, but the process of daily transformation of ourselves and our parenting skills.  Additional materials outside the Sathya Sai Parenting book that align with Sathya Sai Baba’s teaching may also be used to supplement the lesson and help reinforce Swami’s teachings.

The focus of each class should be the application of the teachings and sharing of weekly experiences.  The time frame should be adjusted to meet the needs of the parents in the class.  If a particular topic poses challenges for the parent group, then the topic time frame may be extended to accommodate the needs of the parent group.  In short, the time frame given is an approximation and not a rule.  Additionally, the class should focus on the application of the teaching in one’s life, not a problem solving session for one parent’s problem or situation.  The class is designed to be a self-transformation focus not a “therapy” session.  Presenters for each class can be rotated among the parent participants in the class.

About the Curriculum:

The curriculum is divided into 3 areas:  Self, Family and Community, with Sathya Sai Parenting techniques/lessons as the core that holds all the areas together.  Each area has been further divided into topics that have been broken down by weeks.  The curriculum starts with focusing on oneself and transforming one’s own attitudes, actions and discipline as a parent before focusing on the child’s behaviors and discipline.  Finally, the class will look at service done as family in the community.

Each week lists the objective of the lesson, a focus quote by Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba and instructional guidance as to the direction the discussion or presentation should be directed in.  The format of the class is a co-mixture of SSE style teaching with workshops style small group breakouts.  Each break out group should be based upon the grade level bracket of the child. A sample PowerPoint presentation is provided below.
