Year 1 Overview

Year 1 focuses on mainly on the development of parents and parental behavior.  Children emulate what they see, so we as parents need to set the right example for our children.  The year begins with focusing on the Parent's Prayer and practicing the behaviors that we are praying to Bhagawan to guide us with.

The curriculum then begins using excerpts of the book Sathya Sai Parenting Part I and parents begin to evaluate themselves critically examine their own behaviors and think of alternative behaviors that they can attempt to practice to help improve family life.

What is Parenting?

This is an introductory class that examines what parenting is and what is the difference between regular parenting and sai parenting.

Unit 1: The Parent's Prayer

The Parent's Prayer is a prayer requesting Bhagawan to help us as parents to control certain behaviors, thereby moving us toward being model parents.  This prayer was examined line by line and parents attempted to practice one to two lines per week.  Every parenting class opens with the group reciting this prayer.

Unit 2: Parental Roles (Male Energy/Female Energy)

In this unit, parents investigate male and female roles and how roles in today's society are increasing crossing over.  Parents will investigate their dominate role or energy as well as their non-dominant but necessary role or energy and work on finding a way to balance of both these energies within themselves.

Unit 3: Harmony in Parenting

In this unit,  parents focuses on how thoughts affect parenting, words can be used to effectively parent a child, and how parental actions improve or undermine effective parenting.  Parents will also investigate how consequences and Human Values can help shape the child.
